German Apple Cake (Apfelkuchen) – Traditional Old-World Dessert
A classic German apple cake known as Apfelkuchen, made with fresh apples baked into a soft, buttery cake. This traditional Old-World dessert is simple, comforting, and perfect served with coffee, making it a timeless favorite for family gatherings or a cozy evening treat.

preheat oven to 350F
butter a 10-to-11-inch springform pan or a pan with a removeable bottom
Peel the apples and remove the core then dice/slice (not to thick)
place the apples in a bowl of cold water with lemon juice. set aside until the batter is ready
in a small bowl combine the flour, baking powder, and salt
in a large bowl beat the butter, sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until pale and creamy
beat the eggs in one at a time mixing thoroughly before adding the next egg
stir in the flour mixture until combined but do not over stir
pour apples into a colander and let them dry set aside a few for press into the top
stir the apples pieces into the batter and scoop the batter into the greased pan
place the apples you set aside onto the top of the batter.
bake in the oven for 40-55 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
let cool for 15 minutes and remove from the pan.
Sprinkle the top with powdered sugar. You can also use a sugar & cinnamon mixture or apricot jam for toppings. If you choose to use sugar & cinnamon or jam, add it to the cake while hot and then let it cool.
