Heat the oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven
brown the beef on all sides and transfer to a plate and set aside
add the onions and cook until brown bout 6 minutes
add garlic and cook for another minute
add the red wine and bring to a boil then reduce heat to a simmer until it has evaporated by about half
add the seasonings and tomato paste
return the beef to the skillet
and pour in the beef broth
bring to boil and reduce heat to low and cover to simmer for about an hour or until the beef is tender
Transfer the goulash to a bowl to serve
