Over the past eight years I have used my Mahindra 4550 a lot. I have around 20 acres of pasture that I mow. I also use the Mahindra 4550 to drag logs out of our woods to be either cut up into firewood or into Lumber. I use most of the lumber for projects in our home. During this time, I have done a few things to make my time on the tractor better for me while I am spending hours driving it.
One of the first things that I did was find a way to mount some toolboxes on the tractor. I found these Milwaukee Packout Plates that I could mount on the tractor fenders.
If you would like to get some, I got them from amazon you can use the affiliate link here to order yours Milwaukee Packout plates.
Then I got two of the 1/2 size Milwaukee Packout toolboxes that I have mounted on one of the fenders. I keep a supply of tools and pins in one of them. If the other one that I have stacked on top supplies to repair fencing and also some supplies for the chainsaw.
These have held up very well. They have had tree limbs running over them and they are sealed up to where I do not have to worry about rain getting into the toolboxes. I like the ones that have to latches on the side because they get caught less and when I flip the top up it will stay in line with the fender. They cost a little more than some of the other ones but have held up for three years now. You can get yours at many of the local stores or can order them with the Packout plates here Milwaukee Electric Tool 48-22-8435 Pack out, 5 Compartment, Small Parts Organizer.
On the other fender I have a Milwaukee Packout cooler that I put on the Packout plate. These coolers do cost more than many out there. But it will hold frozen water bottles for more than 24 hours. We also use this cooler on many of our trips that we make videos of.
The cooler has also worked great for mowing the pasture holding my drinks and snacks that I have. I have hit tree limbs with this side and have not had any problems. I try and watch this side more because the cooler is higher than the toolboxes. I found in our area it was harder to find the coolers locally but can get it here COOLER COMPACT 16QT PACKOUT.
Last year I figured it was time to do one more upgrade that would make spending time mowing the pastures not so hot on me. I was thinking that I was getting older and also about time to retire. I ordered a metal canopy from Iron Bull Mfg. I am not affiliated with them but have really loved the canopy. It is built strong and has held up very good.
After having the Mahindra 4550 for around eight years now it has done everything that I have asked of it. I would still buy it again. Only problem that I have had out of it is one of the front axle seals has gone out that I need to get fixed. This is a common problem with these tractors from what I have read. The do have a problem with the limited number of dealers that also work on them so I would check out the dealers close to you because you could be driving to get yours fixed if something does happen.
