In the Kitchen and Cheryl’s cooking

Where the Adventure Continues

Out on the trail, we explore new places.
At home, Cheryl explores flavors.

For Cheryl, cooking is another kind of exploration.

After years as a kitchen manager, she learned that recipes are guides — not rules. Many of the dishes she shares begin with something she has seen before but rarely stay the same. She adjusts ingredients based on what we already have on hand — fresh eggs from the chickens, something from the garden, or simple substitutions instead of running to the store.

Over time, she has learned to trust her taste and her experience.

Her hope is to encourage others to do the same — to explore flavors, discover what works, and learn by trying. You don’t need every ingredient. You don’t need perfection. You just need the willingness to experiment.

Cooking, like traveling, is about confidence and curiosity.

Simple Food. Real Ingredients. No Fuss.

You won’t find complicated techniques or hard-to-pronounce ingredients here.

What you will find:

  • Meals that fill the table

  • Recipes built from what’s already on hand

  • Comfort food after long days outdoors

  • Dishes inspired by places we’ve been

  • And a few surprises along the way

Some recipes are rooted in tradition.
Some are built from leftovers.
Some just happen because we were hungry.

All of them are part of the adventure.

From the Trail to the Table

There’s something satisfying about ending a long day outside with a solid meal. Whether it’s a hearty German schnitzel, a simple skillet dinner, or something sweet from the oven, food brings the day full circle.

We believe good meals don’t have to be complicated.

They just have to be made.

Cook With Confidence

Cheryl doesn’t measure everything perfectly.
She doesn’t follow every rule.
And she won’t expect you to either.

If you’re missing an ingredient — adjust.
If you think it needs more seasoning — add it.
If it turns out a little different than expected — that’s part of learning.

Confidence grows in the kitchen the same way it does on the road:
by doing it.

Still on an Adventure… Even in the Kitchen.

Pull up a chair.
Try something new.
And make it your own.
