Description

Located at the historic Lloyd Tilghman House site in Paducah, this memorial recalls Lloyd Tilghman (1816–1863), a railroad engineer and Confederate brigadier general whose life became closely tied to western Kentucky. Tilghman commanded Confederate forces at Fort Henry and was killed at the Battle of Champion Hill in Mississippi. The memorial offers a concise, thoughtful stop for considering Paducah’s Civil War history and the ways communities remember a complicated past. Pair a visit with the nearby house and Civil War museum when it is open.
