Description

Set along the Ohio River in southern Indiana, Charlestown State Park brings together wooded hills, steep ravines, scenic overlooks, and a layered human history. Its trails lead through the rugged landscape of Clark County, with opportunities to slow down and take in the river country and Fourteen Mile Creek valley.

History is part of the walk here. The park includes land associated with the former Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, as well as the site of Rose Island, a once-popular amusement park that was heavily damaged by the 1937 flood. Today, interpretive features and historic remnants give visitors a glimpse of the people and industries that shaped this stretch of the Ohio River. Charlestown is a rewarding stop for hikers, history-minded travelers, and anyone who enjoys a state park with a story beneath its scenery.
