A scenic location for walking, picnicking and camping.  Parking areas are available at the first trailhead access and at the picnic/camping spur. Tables, grills, and a portable toilet are available at the picnic area. Benches are located on the bluffs overlooking the Ohio River. Water is not available on site.

Carpenter House

Known as Evansville’s “pioneer of public charity,” Carpenter also acted as an agent for the Underground Railroad before the Civil War. His home became one of the first stops for slaves who made their way across the Ohio River. A stone tunnel led from the river three blocks north to the Carpenters’ basement, where runaway slaves hid until they could be relayed to stations further north.

Evansville African American Museum

Museum & cultural center dedicated to history & traditions of the African-American community.

The museum showcases local artists, traveling and permanent exhibits, and contributing citizens of the past and present. It serves as a tourist destination for visiting organizations and groups, and the gallery can be reserved for private, community events and meetings. Museum revenue sources include membership contributions, grants, charitable gift legacies, admissions, facility rental, events, and a gift shop.
