Description

At the site of Jefferson Davis’s birthplace near Fairview, this Kentucky historic site is dominated by a 351-foot concrete memorial obelisk, one of the most striking landmarks in western Kentucky. An observation room near the top offers a sense of the monument’s unusual scale, while the small museum at its base interprets Davis’s life, the Civil War era, and the history surrounding the memorial. The site invites a thoughtful visit: it preserves an important piece of Kentucky history while also providing room to consider the contested legacy of the Confederacy and its leaders.
