Description

Tucked into the wooded hills near Pomona, Illinois, Pomona Natural Bridge is one of the Shawnee National Forest’s quieter natural landmarks. Erosion shaped the local sandstone into a broad stone arch over a wooded ravine, creating a small but memorable destination for travelers who enjoy geology, forest scenery, and an easy outing away from the main roads.

A short hiking route leads from the access area to the bridge and its surrounding rock formations. The setting is especially appealing in spring and fall, when the forest adds color and texture to the sandstone landscape. Wear sturdy shoes, watch your footing around uneven ground and exposed rock, and allow extra time to explore nearby Shawnee National Forest roads and trails.
