Description

In Park Hills, Missouri Mines State Historic Site tells the story of the Old Lead Belt, one of the country’s most significant lead-mining regions. The museum occupies part of the former milling complex of the St. Joe Minerals Corporation, where ore from nearby mines was processed on an enormous industrial scale.

Inside, exhibits explore Missouri’s geology, mining methods, machinery, workers, and the communities shaped by the industry. Large pieces of mining equipment and mineral specimens help make the story tangible, while the preserved industrial setting gives the visit a strong sense of place. It is a rewarding stop for travelers interested in Missouri history, industrial heritage, geology, and the people whose work built the region.
