 Our Visit

While visiting the Rose Garden in Cape Girardeau, we noticed that Capaha Park sat just across the street with plenty of parking.

After spending time walking through the garden, we decided to slow things down a bit and explore the park. It turned out to be a great place to take a break, stretch our legs, and enjoy some lunch.

 About Capaha Park

Capaha Park is the oldest park in Cape Girardeau, opening in 1914. Covering over 39 acres, it serves as one of the main parks in the city.

Located near Southeast Missouri State University, the park offers a wide range of activities and features, including:

  • A collegiate-size baseball field
  • Home to the historic Capaha Baseball team
  • A fishing pond
  • Walking trails
  • Playgrounds and picnic areas
  • A disc golf course
  • The Capaha Garden (formerly the Rose Garden area)

The park has long been a gathering place for both locals and visitors.

Walking the Park

The lake quickly became the centerpiece of the park for us.

With water fountains in the pond and ducks and geese moving across the water, it creates a calm setting that’s perfect for relaxing. There’s a walking loop of about 1.4 miles around the park, though we didn’t have enough time to complete it on this visit.

Even with a short stop, it was easy to see how this park could be a great place to spend a few hours.

 Connection to the Rose Garden

One of the highlights of visiting Capaha Park is how close it is to the nearby Rose Garden.

If you’re already planning to visit the garden, it makes sense to take a little extra time and walk through the park as well. The two locations work well together as an easy and relaxing stop while traveling through the area.
